Styled Wedding Shoot

This very long overdue post is about a Styled Wedding Shoot I photographed / organized this past spring. It’s my longest post so bear with me ūüėČ ¬†it features so many amazing people and artists!

Let’s go!

This past May I organized my very first, (but definitely not last) Styled Wedding Shoot. When I first started to put all the pieces together and make a list of all the people I needed to help make this vision a reality, I felt very overwhelmed. However, each time I worked on it and sent the awkward “Hi, my name is” email, things began to fall into place. It’s amazing what can happen when people choose to help one another and work together as a community of artists, visionaries, and neighbors.

I can genuinely say that each vendor and collaborator I worked with on this shoot was amazing. From the hair, to the dress, everything was unbelievably smooth. Thank you so much to everyone who gave time, money, energy, thought and even their homes to make this shoot everything I imagined. You are awesome!

Working with amazing stylists such as Madelyn Jelinski and Kristina Maccaro  was a dream. They are such hard working, dedicated, talented women and I am so thankful they believed in me and gave so much of themselves to make our model, Hannah look even more beautiful!

Fun fact: Kristina is a boss and let us use her apartment as a styling space for Hannah. Thank you Kristina!

Rob Jelinski, did such a fantastic job with these mock invitations. He put so much thought and detail into them and I could not have been happier. Rob hand painted the invitations and every time I think about all the work and time he put into such a small part of the shoot, I remember how blessed I am to have such talented friends who always give so much of themselves to help a friend!

The lovely “I do” sign was hand crafted by¬†Keena Alyce Designs. She did a perfect job creating exactly what I so poorly described to her. I was blown away when I received the package in the mail.

The floral arrangement by¬†Bouquets and Baskets¬†was amazing! If you’re in the Jersey City area I highly recommend them!

The cake by Sugar suckle, was just darling. It was simply the perfect addition to the table and was exactly what Jen and I discussed.

Fun fact: Bouquets and Baskets also did the floral arrangement for the Baby Zoe shoot! Thank you for being so awesome to work with.

Also, BIG shout out to my dear friend Samantha, who arranged the table. I am so bad at things like that and she took all these pieces and styled them in such a delicate way.

I met Anna (owner of¬†Joyce Films) and her husband Russel through our friends and models, Hannah and Pete. Anna and Russel are every bit as talented as they look and they are so much fun to be around! They also do this really cool thing called Cinema Portrait Sessions for families. It’s ridiculously cool and put’s an entirely new twist on family portraits. AND they are church planting in Brooklyn which is basically the icing on the cake for these two. I could go on and on but stay tuned for their perspective of the Styled Shoot! It’s going to be ah-mazing.

The portraits.

When I look over these pictures, I am reminded that this is what we all worked so hard for. This was what we went out of our way to accomplish and here it is.

Hannah and Pete are some of my dearest friends. I have known Hannah and her family almost my entire life and I am so happy to call her my friend. Over the years we have shared in each others families, weddings, new jobs and so many laughs. When I first hinted to Hannah about my idea for the styled shoot she was beyond supportive. Her response was exactly what every girl needs to hear when they are going out on a limb to pursue their dream. She was so willing to help and so encouraging along the way. It was truly a day for the books and one that continued to bring us closer together. Pete, you’re a gem. Thank you for bringing all your ties and for carrying Hannah’s shoes when we made you guys walk all over Jersey City. I love you both and I am so thankful to call you my friends.

Again, thank you to everyone who made this shoot possible. Your hard work and creativity continues to inspire me on a daily basis.

Cheers to the next shoot!

Sasha, Sashie, Sasha girlie, Sasha Fierce, and SashieSashieSashie are just a few of the nicknames I’ve come up with for my homegirl, Sasha.

At the beginning of this summer, my husband and I had (very casually) talked about getting a puppy. As usual, it was never much more then a conversation. Until about three weeks ago…

My husband was driving very early one morning and saw this beautiful dog (spoiler alert, it was Sasha) in the middle of the road eating something off the ground. She had no collar, no tags, and some minor injures on her head. He waited with her to see if anyone would show up and no one did. So, he put her in the car and drove home while calling Animal Control.

It took a few hours for animal control to arrive and in the mean time, my husband fell in LOVE with Sasha. Although, at this point she was just “the dog” (no name).

After animal control arrived, Dave was so sad to see her go. He inquired about the adoption process, and they told him she would be placed on stray hold. They would wait a week for someone to claim her, and after that we could go to Liberty Humane Society and fill out an application to adopt.

When about five days had gone by, Dave asked if I wanted to stop by the Humane Society to see “the dog”. I was reluctant, because I knew once I saw her it would be really hard to leave without her. I went anyway because duh, I’m not going to not go.

We got to the humane society and I fell in love with “the dog”. She was so friendly, so sweet, and those EYES! She instantly remembered Dave, wagged her tail, rolled on her back, and looked for Dave to rub her belly. She stole my heart (and has since then stollen my wallet as well as my clean apartment… I’m working on not being so bitter about it ūüėČ ). We inquired about adoption, but she was not eligible yet since it hadn’t been a full week for someone to claim her. She also needed a few more vaccinations. We started to walk out the door a very sad, puppy-less couple. Until….. Sophie, to the rescue (pun intended). Sophie, works at the Humane Society and saved the day when she told us that we could foster Sasha for a week. This¬†would 1. give owners time to claim her (which no one did, obviously), 2. time for us to become adjusted to having two dogs in the house, and 3. free up valuable space that they were running out of. I’m so glad we did foster to adopt. It was so nice taking her home with us and being able to love on her and give her a clean, safe place to live while waiting for the adoption process.

*Side note, Liberty Humane Society was awesome to work with. They have a lot of dogs (and cats) and are really doing their best to make sure they all go home to good families. Yes, it’s a little smelly but that’s to be expected with all the animals they take in (ignore the ignorant google review about the smell). I highly recommend checking them out or donating to support the good work they are doing.

After a week, we brought her back to the Humane Society where she was spayed, microchipped and given the rest of her vaccinations.

YAY! She’s officially ours!

As most of you know, Dave and I already have one very large and in charge dog, Pharaoh (also a Pit mix). Pharaoh was given to us from a college friend who was unable to bring him to his new apartment due to pet restrictions. We love Pharaoh very much but going through the dog rescue process and providing a safe home to an animal who didn’t have one before was so fulfilling. Sasha was living on the streets before we rescued her and she has some scars on her head and ears to prove it. It breaks my hear to imagine this beautiful, sweet, playful, loving pup without a home or a family. What breaks my heart¬†more are some of the comments we have received from people who have heard we recused a Pit bull. Sasha and Pharaoh are some of the most loving and sweet dogs I’ve ever met. Yes, I’m a little biased, but they really and truly are. I hope we can put aside our prejudice towards Pits and see them for what they really are, loving, loyal, playful and sweet side kicks.

Cheers to Pits and our new girl, Sashie.

Ps. Sasha and Pharaoh are besties. They play together all day long. Sasha has a slight obsession with Pharaoh being in close proximity to her, which kind of makes my heart melt a little bit.

Lackawanna Coffee

If you’re like me, you’re a complete sucker for a good cup of coffee. Even more of a sucker for a cute coffee shop. I’m not even kidding when I say that my husband comments more on how much money I spend at coffee shops then when I buy clothing (and that’s saying something).

About a year ago I noticed a storefront under construction with the sign “Lackawanna Coffee” on the front (you can imagine my excitement). The construction took close to a year to finish and I had forgotten all about it. When I heard it opened last week, I sent a quick text over to my good friend Nisha¬†¬†“hey cute coffee shop in town, want to check it out?!” I sent her an iPhone shot of the back area and she responded “Where the heck have I been under a rock?”

Nope! It’s BRAND new.

Nisha and I had the opportunity to sit down with the Owners, Ian and Julius and ask them a few questions about Lackawanna Coffee and how it got it’s name (check out Nisha’s blog¬†¬†for the interview and photos of our time there).

Below are some photos of the breezeway. This area specifically is really interesting and that’s why I’m touching on it.

When Nisha and I ordered our coffee and went to the back area, we walked through this great little breezeway. Nisha noticed immediately how they had taken advantage of every inch of the space to make it their own. When we sat down with Ian and Julius a few minutes later, they said that space was specifically curated by their good friend Ron (who was sitting nearby working). We went over to talk with Ron and learned so much (more) about Lackawanna Coffee, all the good things happening in Jersey City and of course, the breezeway.

The breezeway is filled with vintage items that Ron found and collected over his time traveling. There are books and little matchboxes, pillows, magazines, photos etc. All of it perfectly arranged.

If you’re on social media, you can follow Ron’s instagram page for the breezeway. The goal is to eventually have the items available for purchase!

Here are some shot’s of Lackawanna Coffee and the Breezeway!

When your friends have babies it’s a wonderful thing for a few reasons. The first is that you can smother them endlessly and it’s not weird. The second is that it somewhat eliminates the baby bug, you get your fix for a few hours then you’re good. The third is that ¬†you have an excuse to take 700 + photos of them and again, it’s not weird!

Danny and Lizette,

Thank you for asking me to take photos of your precious babe. I am so honored you asked me ūüôā

Which do you love more Christmas or wedding season?

Yes, the answer would be, wedding season?

A few weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend a wedding and take photos under a really amazing wedding photographer (who someday soon you will all become more familiar with). It was such a lovely day despite the crazy amount of wind and (thankfully) the rain held off so we could grab some shots under those incredible cherry blossoms!

I can’t wait to share more wedding photos on my blog in the near future! But for now, enjoy this little teaser… lot’s of exciting posts coming up!

Oh Brother…

Ok, can I just take a second to brag?!

How cute is he?? My (not so) little brother Josh is graduating high school this year and I can’t believe how fast all those years went by. Josh wasn’t always this handsome, responsible, young gentleman. He went through a real mischievous streak when he was a toddler. He would take clothes and throw them out the window, put food from the pantry in a washing machine that was full of soapy clothes… ETC. ¬†I think my mom is really thankful he grew out of that phase of life ūüėČ

Two years ago my Parents (and four out of my five siblings)¬†moved down to Orlando Florida. Although it’s really nice to have a forever vacation spot in sunny florida, I miss my family a lot! It’s not the same without them around and I’ve missed out on a lot of moments, but it just makes going to visit all the sweeter.

Josh is planning on attending South Eastern University where both of my sisters also went to college. He is on the track team, sings and plays guitar. He’s basically an all around cutie. Like, if I wasn’t related to him, and I was a few years younger I would toooooooootally have a crush on him. Is that weird? No, it’s not right? Right?

Please enjoy Joshua’s senior photos!

I’m a little partial to how handsome and sweet he is ūüôā

For those curious, I used a canon 5d mark iii and switched between a 50mm lens and a 24-105 lens. BIG fan of the 50mm. It’s like life blurs away in the background.

Rob Jelinski Collaboration

Collaborations are always fun! You meet new people, work with old friends, and do something totally out of the box.

This weekend, I was able to work with the very talented,¬†Rob Jelinski at his Lululemon¬†Art Exhibit! It was unlike any art show I’ve ever been to. Chill, relaxed, and surrounded by really good looking people with really good looking fitness gear.

Here are a few shots from the event.

P.s. I highly recommend Rob for any graphic needs you may have ūüėČ

Danny & Daniely

If this isn’t the look of love, i’m not sure what is.

Daniely and I were introduced a few years ago through my husband. At the time she was in high school. Now, she’s preparing to graduate college, and getting married! A lot had changed in just a few short years. When Daniely introduced us to her fianc√©, he was just as amazing as she said he was. Charming, funny, sweet and so in love with Daniely.

Love you guys. Can’t wait to see where life takes you!

Ps. Doesn’t Danny look exactly like that guys from the Bridesmaids movie?!

location: Jersey City, NJ (exchange place).

“She’s so cool”

Friends, they are so valuable. Sometimes you talk every single day. Sometimes you go weeks (maybe even months) without any real conversation. Yet somehow, you’re able to pick up right where you left off.

Every. Single. Time.

When I was little my mom would wait until the day of Rachel’s visit to tell me she was coming over (we lived about an hour from each other). She waited because she knew I would beg and ask 5,000 times before the hang out:

“When is Rachel coming?”

“How much longer until Rachel’s visit?”

“Is she coming today or tomorrow?”

The real reason for me asking so many times… I totally needed to change my outfit because she was just as cool then as she is now.

Cheers to the coolest girl I know.

Anniversary Date

Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated two years of being married!

Two Years?!

Since our  anniversary fell on a Tuesday, we celebrated on Monday (MLK day). We both had the day off so we took advantage and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET). It was amazing! I had never been so it was all new and exciting for me. I love that we could just linger and wander all day without any kind of schedule.

Thank you, Dave. You are the best guy to go on dates with. Thanks for making me laugh, for telling me when I’m wrong, for leading me spiritually and for always making me breakfast : ) You’re a champ!
